Consumer-related antecedents of food provisioning behaviors that promote food waste

چکیده
Household food waste has serious negative consequences for the environment and society. Food results from provisioning behaviors, however, there is little evidence regarding consumer-related factors that drive such behaviors. The aim was to investigate antecedents of key behaviors related motivation reduce waste. A cross-sectional online survey (N = 508) conducted in Denmark showed excessive buying discarding foods past best before date were mainly driven by individual tendencies as impulsive tendency or disgust sensitivity. Consumers’ frugal, environmental hedonic self-identities associated with higher waste, whereas first two identities also lower likelihood date. frugal self-identity sensitivity directly negatively, respectively positively, self-reported well. Excessive most important proximal drivers Implications public policy are discussed.

By causing high amounts of household food waste, German households contribute significantly to serious global threats for the environment. Unfortunately, current information campaigns, conducted by several food waste-prevention initiatives, often lack in recipient’s perceived relevance of provided recommendations on how to prevent household food waste by improving the performance of relevant fo...

Food waste is problematic on a number of levels; including the loss of a potentially valuable food source or resource for use in other processes; wasted resources and emissions in the food supply chain; and problems associated with the disposal of organic waste to landfill. We quantify the post-consumer food waste stream in South Africa, in order to bring attention to the magnitude of the probl...
متن کاملHydrothermal Liquefaction of Food Waste and Model Food Waste Compounds
Solid waste is generated at a rate of more than 4 lb per person per day. A significant portion of the non-recyclable waste is food waste, with high water content and low energy density. While most thermochemical conversion processes require a relatively dry feedstock, hydrothermal liquefaction uses subcritical water as the reaction medium and is therefore compatible with high-moisture feedstock...
متن کاملConsumers in a Sustainable Food Supply Chain (COSUS): Understanding Consumer Behavior to Encourage Food Waste Reduction
Consumers are directly and indirectly responsible for a significant fraction of food waste which, for a large part, could be avoided if they were willing to accept food that is suboptimal, i.e., food that deviates in sensory characteristics (odd shape, discoloration), or that has a best-before date which is approaching or has passed, but that is still perfectly fine to eat. The choice to accept...

The purpose of this study was to examine consumers' behaviors toward ready-to-eat foods and to develop ready-to-eat food market segmentation in Korea. The food-related lifestyle and purchase behaviors of ready-to-eat foods were evaluated using 410 ready-to-eat food consumers in the Republic of Korea. Four factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis (health-orientation, taste-orientati...
